1. Our Approach to Discipline

Discipline at Cornerstone is corrective, not punitive. We do not use flogging or any form of corporal punishment. Instead, we focus on positive correction, mentorship, and parental involvement to help students understand the consequences of their actions.

• Encourage respect for authority, peers, and property.

• Maintain a peaceful learning environment.

• Promote self-discipline and accountability.

2. Behaviour Expectations

All students are expected to:

 

• Be punctual and attend school regularly.

• Respect teachers, staff, and fellow students.

• Remain attentive and quiet during lessons.

• Wear the correct school uniform and maintain personal hygiene.

• Keep classrooms and the school environment clean.

• Avoid fighting, bullying, and use of foul language.

• Refrain from bringing banned or dangerous items to school.

• Represent the school positively both on and off campus.

3. Types of Offences

​

Minor Offences

These include:

 

• Lateness to school or class.

• Noise-making during lessons.

• Not wearing proper uniform.

• Failure to complete assignments or homework.

• Talking back to teachers or showing mild disrespect.

• Minor classroom disturbances.

Major Offences

These include:

 

• Fighting or bullying.

• Cheating in exams or tests.

• Stealing or destruction of school property.

• Disrespecting teachers or school authorities.

• Leaving school without permission.

• Bringing mobile phones, drugs, weapons, or prohibited items.

Serious Offences (Gross Misconduct)

These are actions that threaten safety, morality, or the school’s reputation, such as:

 

• Physical assault on a teacher or student.

• Use or possession of drugs, alcohol, or weapons.

• Sexual harassment or misconduct.

• Repeated acts of bullying or violence.

• Defamation of the school’s image (online or offline).

4. Disciplinary Steps and Consequences

Cornerstone uses a progressive discipline system — this means that repeated misbehaviour leads to stronger consequences. However, the school reserves the right to escalate a case immediately depending on the severity of the offence.

 

 

For Minor Offences:​

• First time: Verbal warning and behaviour log entry.

• Second time: Written warning and formal record on the school portal.

• Third time: Parent meeting with the Class Teacher or Section Head.

• Fourth time: One-day suspension or in-school community service.

• Continued misconduct: Upgraded to a major offence level.

For Major Offences:

• First time: Written report and immediate parent meeting with the Vice Principal or Headmistress.

• Second time: Suspension for 3–5 days and signing of a Behaviour Agreement before resumption.

• Third time: Expulsion from the school following management review.

Note: Depending on the seriousness of the action, the school may skip any stage and move directly to suspension or expulsion.

 

 

 

For Serious Offences:

Certain actions lead to immediate expulsion without warning. These include:

• Assaulting a staff member or fellow student.

• Possessing or using drugs, alcohol, or weapons.

• Engaging in sexual misconduct or harassment.

• Repeated violent or threatening behaviour.

• Any act that damages the school’s reputation or endangers others.

5. Classroom Behaviour

Classroom discipline is essential for effective learning.

​

Disrupting lessons or showing disrespect to teachers will not be tolerated.

​

Step-by-step procedure for classroom misconduct:

1. First offence – Verbal warning.

2. Second offence – Written warning recorded on the school portal.

3. Third offence – Sent out of class and referred to the Vice Principal or Headmistress.

4. Fourth offence – Parent meeting with Vice Principal or Headmistress.

5. Continued disruption – Suspension (1–3 days) or, if necessary, expulsion.

6. Behaviour Records

• All disciplinary actions are recorded in the student’s behaviour file on the school portal.

• Parents can view behaviour updates through their portal accounts.

• Positive conduct is also recorded and rewarded at the end of each term.

7. Parental Involvement

We believe parents are key partners in maintaining discipline.

 

Parents will be notified promptly of any serious or repeated misconduct and may be called for:

• Parent–Teacher meetings.

• Parent–Vice Principal or Headmistress meetings.

• Behaviour review conferences after suspension.

 

 

No student may resume after suspension without a parent conference.

8. Student Rights

Even during disciplinary action, every student has the right to:

• Be heard and explain their side of the story.

• Be treated fairly, without discrimination or humiliation.

• Learn in a safe, abuse-free environment.

• Receive guidance and counselling to correct behaviour.
