🌐 Online Safety & Responsible Internet Use

Whilst your son or daughter is accessing their learning online, it is important that they use the internet safely and responsibly.

At Cornerstone International School, we are committed to promoting positive, secure, and responsible use of technology. We encourage all parents and students to stay informed and make the most of the many resources available to protect young people online.

To support families, we’ve listed five trusted international online safety resources recommended by the Department for Education (DfE) in the UK and the UK Safer Internet Centre. Each provides practical tools, advice, and guidance to help your child use the internet safely.

Our Commitment to our Community

At Cornerstone International School, we believe every student and staff member deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. We are committed to creating a learning and working environment built on dignity, kindness, and mutual respect.

We do not tolerate bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind. This includes behaviour directed at a person’s background, beliefs, appearance, or identity — including sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex.

Inclusion and Respect

We recognise that our community is diverse, and that diversity strengthens us. Every individual has the right to be treated with respect, without fear of exclusion, judgment, or harm.

We encourage all members of our school community to:

  • Treat others with kindness and respect

  • Value differences and diverse perspectives

  • Stand against bullying and discrimination

  • Support those who may feel vulnerable or excluded

Leadership Commitment

Cornerstone International School, including its leadership and directors, is committed to actively upholding a safe and inclusive environment for all students and staff.

This includes:

  • Promoting fairness, dignity, and respect across the school

  • Addressing discrimination or harassment consistently and seriously

  • Supporting the wellbeing of every individual

Our Approach to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)

We are committed to building a school culture that reflects strong principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This means:

  • Diversity – recognising and valuing differences within our community

  • Equity – ensuring fair treatment, access, and opportunity for all

  • Inclusion – creating an environment where everyone feels they belong

We strive to be a forward-thinking school in Nigeria, setting a positive example for how education can be both inclusive and respectful of all.

Speaking Up & Getting Help

Bullying, harassment, or exclusion should never be ignored. If you experience or witness harmful behaviour, please report it to a member of staff.

All concerns will be taken seriously and handled appropriately.

Our Goal

Our goal is to build a school where every student and staff member feels they belong — a place where individuals can learn, work, and grow in safety and respect.

Inclusive Education and Student Development

At Cornerstone International School, we believe that education should reflect the diversity of the world and prepare students to engage with others respectfully and responsibly.

We are committed to providing age-appropriate, balanced, and inclusive learning that may include:

  • Discussions of relationships, personal development, and wellbeing that acknowledge different experiences

  • Awareness of diverse identities and perspectives, including LGBTQ+ topics where appropriate

  • Learning about historical and social contributions from a wide range of communities

  • Encouraging understanding beyond strictly binary views of human development, recognising that individuals may have different experiences and identities

Our approach is guided by widely recognised principles of fairness, dignity, and respect in education. We aim to apply these principles in a way that is responsible, age-appropriate, and mindful of our local context.

Inclusive education helps to:

  • Reduce stigma and misinformation

  • Promote empathy and mutual respect

  • Support the emotional wellbeing of all students

We strive to ensure that:

  • Every member of our community—regardless of religion, belief, culture, background, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability—has the right to feel safe, respected, and fully supported.

  • Every student and staff member is treated fairly and with dignity

  • Inclusion is reflected not only in policy, but in everyday actions and decisions

Respecting and Supporting Pupils

We believe that every pupil deserves to be treated with care, respect, and understanding.

In practice, this means:

  • Listening to students without judgment

  • Treating each student with dignity, regardless of their background or identity

  • Responding to concerns with empathy, professionalism, and discretion

  • Creating a safe and supportive environment for learning and personal growth

Caring for students means acting in their best interests at all times—protecting their wellbeing, supporting their development, and ensuring they feel safe within the school community.
